  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter at room temperature
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg large
  • 1 pure vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1/2 salt

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 ground ginger
  • 1/8 ground nutmeg
  • 6 cup thinly sliced peeled tart apples
  • 1 lemon juice

Instructions
 

Preparation of The Pie Crust

  • In a large bowl, add in the butter and sugar. Cream the butter and sugar together until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  • Gradually add flour and salt, mixing until dough comes together. Divide dough in half; flatten each into a disk.
  • Wrap each in plastic; refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or up to 2 days).
  • When you are ready to use, on a lightly floured surface, roll one disk of dough to a 1/8-in.-thick circle; transfer to a 9-in.pie plate. Trim even with rim.
  • Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.

Preparation of The Apple Filling

  • Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg in a large bowl. Add apples; toss to coat.
  • Sprinkle with lemon juice. Set aside.

Assembling The Apple Pie

  • Once you have prepared the dough and filling, it is time to assemble and bake the pie.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  • Trim, seal, and flute edge. Cut slits on top. Beat remaining egg; brush over crust.
  • Bake the pie for 50 minutes to 1 hour, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly. (More if you think the filling is too runny).
  • If the crust begins to get too brown, cover with foil.
  • Cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before serving.

    If you would like to store your pie in the fridge, do so for no longer than 5 days. When you are ready to eat, simply reheat in a 350-degree oven for about 15-20 minutes.
    Apple pie can also be frozen. Wrap the pie tightly in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and store it in the freezer for up to 2 months. When you are ready to eat, thaw overnight in the fridge and then reheat according to the above instructions.
