  • 1 Potato masher or ricer


  • 1 pound Yukon Gold potatoes peeled and cut into chunks
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 cup butter
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste


  • In a large pot, bring the potatoes to a boil in salted water. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until they are fork-tender.
  • Drain the potatoes and return them to the pot. Add the milk and butter. Mash or ricer the potatoes until they are the desired consistency.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve immediately.
  • Mashed potatoes can be made ahead of time and reheated. Simply place them in a covered dish and reheat in the oven or microwave when you are ready to serve.
