This recipe is for a traditional beef stew that is made with chunks of beef, vegetables, and a variety of spices. It is perfect for a cold winter day or any day that you are in the mood for a hearty meal.

  • Large pot

  • 1 pound beef chuck cut into small cubes
  • 1 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 onion chopped
  • 3 carrots peeled and diced
  • 3 celery stalks diced
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup red wine
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • 1 pound Yukon gold potatoes peeled and diced
  • 1/2 cup frozen peas


  • Preheat the oven to 350°F or 175°C.
  • In a large bowl, combine the beef, flour, paprika, salt, and pepper. Toss to coat the beef evenly.
  • In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat the olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides.
  • Add the beef broth, onion, carrots, celery, tomato paste, red wine, bay leaf, thyme, and rosemary. Stir to combine.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer and then cover and bake in the oven for 1-2 hours, or until the beef is very tender.
  • Remove the pot from the oven and add the potatoes and peas. Stir to combine.
